Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have started the first year of the Young Entrepreneur's Club for Dove Science Academy. Our public charter school is an eclectic mix of middle and high school students working hard to overcome obstacles and to achieve success regardless of their personal situations. Most of them are children of parents who are not citizens so they face many educational barriers.

Almost 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced price meals.

We have a 0% drop-out rate and a 100% college acceptance rate. Our dedicated staff takes personal interest in helping our students succeed not only academically but socially and emotionally as well. It is our goal to produce well-balanced, productive young adults that have the tools they need to be responsible, contributing members of society.

My Project

My students come from poor households. My goal is to educate them in financial matters so that they can negotiate their way through the American financial system with success. I don't want to see them taken advantage of when the purchase items. Accordingly, I have requested numerous financial literacy references such Budgeting Workbook, and The Richest Man in Babylon so they students can be taught the financial principals by the experts.

I have asked for a calculator with a tape as well so they can see how their proposed investments might grow and whether or not, they understand the concepts.

This will help me assess their knowledge.
