My Students

My school is a Title l Distinguished school, and 90% of the school population receives free/reduced-price lunch. We currently have Breakfast-in-the-Classroom to provide food for those students whose families are struggling financially. My classroom consists of students with intellectual disabilities - ADHD, Autism, SLD, Visual/Auditory Processing Disorder.

They LOVE reading all kinds of books to enhance their knowledge of the world around them.

Students with intellectual disabilities NEED hands-on learning and practice with books to help them access not only the reading curriculum, but also the world around them. Books are also especially helpful for my students, because it gives them equitable access to their academic goals.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the print-rich resource classroom library that I strive to create for all my students. My classroom library is a place my students look forward to spending time in. My students love to have books read to them, read independently, and even check them out to take home, so they can show off their reading skills and knowledge to their friends and family!

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books at their own independent reading level, as well as, their personal interests.

Bringing a diversity of books into my classroom library, also helps me extend diverse lessons and opportunities for students to learn about the global world around them. Many of my students are determined to increase their knowledge and ability to read, and one of the best ways to do it, is by giving access to more books and more opportunities to practice their reading. These books will continue to help my students grow as stronger readers. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
