My Students

My students are a fun group of creative and active fifth graders. We live in a rural, isolated village in northwest Alaska, where many students practice subsistence hunting and fishing to support their families. Most of my students are Native Alaskan and are taught traditional native values.

My students love playing sports, hunting caribou, riding snow machines and four-wheelers, going ice fishing, and sledding.

My students are a diverse group, with strong ties to their families, their culture, and the land. In the classroom, they are an energetic group that enjoys working in groups, doing hands-on activities, and playing goofy games.

My Project

I teach every subject to a class of energetic and diverse fifth graders. I prep for a lot of hands-on activities and games. If I had a filing cabinet, I would be able to save all of the extra copies and activities so I wouldn't have to do all of the same work again next year. Having everything already filed away will mean my students will be able to enjoy more games and hands-on activities every day. Once it is filled with grade-level materials for the year, I will be able to focus on creating differentiated materials for every lesson, greatly benefiting the students who are above or below grade level.
