Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students and I recently revived an old iMac by installing Linux on it, so now we have a dedicated computer to use with our 3-D printer! Students are learning how to navigate Ubuntu and how to generate printable G-code files from simpler STL and CAD files.

Students who are engaged by hands-on materials are delighted to fabricate their digital designs using our Prusa MK4 3d printer.

The task gives a relevant context for concepts like file formats, geometries, configuration processes, and file system protocols.

Members of our robotics team have immediately begun printing robot parts like plastic sprockets, and game parts like FIRST FTC Centerstage pixels. Other students are printing DIY phone cases downloaded from the Internet.

With your support, students at our school can explore 3D modeling and printing applications like SketchUp and PrusaSlicer, learning relevant real-world skills related to fabrication with minimal exposure to toxic materials.
