Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at la escuelita aren’t ever only-one-thing: most are Latinx, qualify for free/reduced lunch, will be first-gen college students; all are self-determined, self-directed, and seek to dismantle white supremacy using intersectional strategies in a zip code with COVID-19 infection, hospitalization, and death rates among the highest in the US.

My Project

In the before times, we would sprawl on mats, use lap desks in the halls, seek refuge in stairwells, and transform the space into what we needed it to be.

Now, though, we find that the realities of social distancing and too many of us in too small a space, make seating configurations (and classroom flow in general) a massive challenge.

Wobble chairs will allow for a measure of ease as we undertake our grade nine expeditions. Our first major fall expedition, We keep us safe: Implications for Mutual Aid Uptown, will be student designed, led, and implemented work that will require long hours in class.

We currently have one wobble chair in our room for thirty four students. The chairs will stay in the room (which will be used all day).
