My Students
Do you remember what it was like learning to read? For many children practicing their reading is a boring task. I myself was a struggling reader as a child, so I understand what my students are going through. I am always looking for ways to make reading more fun for them.
My children live in a low income area.
For many of them, the only reading they do is while they are in school. When they go home they are responsible for their younger siblings and rarely have the opportunity to find a quiet place to read. They are constantly telling me that it is too loud at home for reading. My classroom is the only quiet place some of them know.
My Project
I have found a way to motivate my students to read while in my classroom. They love to hear themselves recorded. I currently have 5 computers in my classroom, but only 1 headset with a microphone. With your help 5 children each day would get to record themselves reading. After they record, they get to listen to what they read and then try to improve their fluency and expression.
Having 5 headsets would mean that each child in my class would get to record at least once a week.
When some of my children are supposed to be sitting at their seats reading, they are daydreaming instead, but when they are put in front of the computer to record, they all read. Please help me to get more children reading each day!
