Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are happy and active kids. I've introduced the foundations of Physical Education to them, but now we need some equipment to kick it up a notch!

My students live in an urban setting.

Many live in small apartments or in crime-ridden streets that make it difficult to live an active lifestyle outdoors. For many, school may be the only place they can have physical activity. Most of my students are on free or reduced price meals, which means that their families are on tight incomes and may be unable to offer after school enrichment sports programs, unless they are free. As we know, state and federal budget cuts in funding during the previous years have greatly reduced such free or low cost programs in highly populated urban communities.

My Project

My students will use the requested Physical Education equipment to combat the national obesity epidemic by becoming more active. They will learn the basics of being healthy through flexibility, aerobic and endurance activities. The spot markers will help with managing PE lessons, showing students where to safely stand. The scarves will be used in group or partner aerobic games. Bean bags will help them improve on their eye/hand coordination and reaction times.

For only a few couple hundred dollars, my students will learn valuable skills they can use in future sports.

But most importantly, they will fall in love with leading a healthy, active lifestyle.
