My Project

Last year, some of my students saw me knitting during downtime at school, and begged me to teach them. I gathered donations of yarn and needles from neighbors and strangers, and had over 20 fifth graders sign up for lunchtime knitting club! The fourth graders looked on jealously, but I promised they would get their turn once they moved up grades. With the new school year underway, they are begging me to start knitting club again. The problem is, many of my students last year loved knitting so much, I allowed them to keep the needles they had been using, and now I don't have enough!

My new students need new sets of knitting needles so they can get started on this wonderful hobby.

Knitting is not only a fun pastime, it supports fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, and even math skills. Many of my students have found that knitting in class helps them focus and keeps them from getting distracted by screens or peers. The odd assortment of needles I have right now just won't cut it--we need some new, matching sets so we can learn!
