Fifth Grade Hands On Learning Supplies

Help me give my students additional hands on opportunities. With these supplies we can create water purifiers, observe worms and decomposition. I am excited to bring recycling opportunities to my classroom with clearly marked recycling bins.

My Students

My students in Sparks, Nevada come from a variety of backgrounds. We are a second year charter school and I admire the bravery of our families to boldly go into the unknown. My students are resilient and have gone with the flow through school changes due to Covid and smoke. I would like to add additional flexible seating to my classroom, along with some additional science supplies to support my students hands on learning.

My Project

These supplies will support my students as they continue to grow as after missing so much school. Many of my students have gaps in their science learning due to the pandemic. The flexible seating alternatives will help with student focus and many students do not have headphones for computer activities.

The worms support 5-LS2-1, energy and movement, the recycling bins and book about waste support 5-ESS3, and being able to keep plants growing without water supports 5-LS1.

The charcoal and cotton balls will allow us to build water purification systems growing their knowledge of 5-ESS2-2. Overall my classroom goal has been to raise student awareness of the world around them as they learn the necessary science standards. I believe the items I have asked for will help me grow them as citizens and students.
