Fifth Grade Enters the 21st Century!

My students need technology that can keep up with the pace of learning! A set of five iPads would allow me to set up stations for math practice and enrichment, as well as project research.

My Students

These kiddos are ready to take on the world! This diverse community of learners is bursting with curiosity and filled with ideas to share.

My fifth grade students are budding researchers and mathematicians.

This classroom of kids can trace their heritage to points all over the globe. We speak multiple languages and come from families of all shapes and sizes. What do we have in common? Our love for our school community and our interest in the world beyond our classroom walls. These future leaders, creators, and thinkers are the people that inspire me the most.

My Project

Fifth graders are at the age where their horizons begin to expand. In our fifth grade class we currently have 2 working computers and that is just not enough. A set of five iPads would allow us to reach beyond the walls of our classroom.

In order to develop critical thinking skills, we need to have information at our fingertips.

Having an iPad research station for writing and social studies would provide students with the opportunity to learn strong research practices. It would enable students to answer questions not addressed by the books we have in class, deepening understanding of the historical events we are studying. As students learn about point of view and perspective, having a set of iPads would help me to lead research groups to find reliable information to support their arguments as they prepare for debates.

In math, using online tools like Khan Academy would provide access to highly individualized instruction, repeated practice, and enrichment. It would also provide a stepping stone for the type of assignments students are likely to receive in middle school.

Thanks so much for any help you can give in bringing my fifth grade into the 21st Century!
