Fienberg's Finest: Changing Lives through Peer Mentoring
My students need the environment (chairs, carpet, post it boards) and teaching tools (clip boards, pens, paper) to provide a safe place to become Peer Counselors.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin.
We are hoping our Emotionally and Behaviorally Disabled students will gain skills by mentoring their peers with Conflict Resolution, Positive Decision Making and Following the Rules.
Our students experience a highly structured and closely supervised program which utilizes positive reinforcement and behavior management.
With less than 10 children in the class, their day is divided into manageable pieces with a point system to encourage learning. Each of the students have individual needs which prevents them from involvement in the general education setting. Our biggest challenge is to find ways for our students (ADHD, Autism, Learning disabilities, sensory concerns or aggressive outbursts) to be successful. We have found that identifying student strengths and training them to work with peers allows them to feel confident and worthy.
My Project
It is our vision that the student will be trained by the EBD Clinician in the areas of peer mediation and support. The students will have supplies ( paper, clip boards, art supplies) and furniture (Rug, bean bag chairs) to provide a safe environment to counsel that is fun and engaging. We believe students will gain leadership, conflict resolution skills, patience, and tolerance in the process of working with their peers. Peer Counselors will be given special privileges to create their own logo to be put on a t-shirt, do morning announcements and eventually train new mentors. Students will also be given incentives from a treasure box including bracelets, stress balls, art supplies, airplanes, stickers and sports balls to be used to encourage participation. Peer Mentors will reward their groups with pencils, bracelets and t-shirts when conflicts are resolved. Stress balls, pencils and balls will be used in team building activities to promote cohesiveness in the group.

These donations will provide a chance for our students to learn through action. We hope to improve interactions between students at our school and providing ways for them to show their strengths.
