My Project

Anxiety is on the rise in students in every school. Many students experience anxiety and sensory sensitivities that can interfere with their ability to learn and participate effectively in the classroom. These challenges can manifest as restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and emotional distress.

Traditional classroom settings may not adequately address these needs, leaving students struggling to self-regulate.

  his project aims to equip students with a variety of discreet sensory tools, including: sensory bracelets: wearable items that provide tactile stimulation through textures and beads; marble mesh fidgets: Small, portable fidgets that offer tactile and kinesthetic feedback through the movement of a marble within a mesh sleeve; and fidget rings: rings with spinning or textured elements that allow for quiet and subtle fidgeting.  

These items will provide students with a discreet outlet for sensory input, allowing them to manage anxiety and sensory overload without disrupting the learning environment. Our goals are reduced classroom anxiety and improved student focus, enhanced self-regulation skills among students with sensory sensitivities, a more inclusive and supportive classroom environment, increased student engagement and participation, and improved student emotional wellbeing.

This project aims to provide students with sensory tools to help manage anxiety and improve focus during the challenging final semester, which includes state/district testing, end-of-course exams, and the emotional stress of transitioning to a new academic year. Students have already demonstrated a positive response to sensory tools, making them a valuable support for academic performance and mental well-being.
