My Project

We're at the halfway point of the school year, and it's no surprise that supplies are running low. At the same time, we've seen a lot of indoor recess days due to frigid temps in our area. So, we devised a project idea to bridge our need for more fidgets and a few fun items to weather the cold days.

Two months ago, I did a soft launch with fidgets in the classroom and underestimated its success!

Students are now accustomed to utilizing fidgets while focusing on learning sounds and blends. When working independently or during whole group instruction, fidgets have minimized the need for students to walk around in the classroom. What I perceived to be a distraction, my students quickly proved me wrong. Some have even started to squeeze the fidgets to assist with counting to solve math problems. I must admit, I didn't think of that! My original thought was to request an Easy Bake Oven. But I decided to go with a much smaller item, such as the cupcake maker. I like this resource because it can also be used to make cake pops. Adding a popcorn maker for fun Fridays and class celebrations was only fair as well.

Kinetic sand is an ongoing request in my classroom. When we have moments in which students can engage in an activity of their choosing, they either go to the LEGO or the kinetic sand. With this resource, there is never a dull moment with creation. We are hoping to see the same awesome creations with the Picasso tiles. Although the kinetic sand is mostly used on fun Fridays, we have been able to create learning activities in writing.
