My Students

My second-grade students are eager to learn but they need some breaks during the day. Many of my students are struggling to meet the rigorous demands of an academic day.

Even on the first day of school, they are already playing catch-up.

I spend most of the first month of school teaching the students how to follow directions and learn routines. Many are underprivileged children who rely on eating free breakfast and lunch that is provided by the school. My students are amazing children who need the opportunity to take breaks throughout the day with hands-on activities.

My Project

My students learn better with breaks during the day. To be engaged learners they require time-out. Time out can be a chance to give their brain a break and get their fidgets out. They need to use their hands to build and create all while in a special place to sit during their break.

Taking a break re-energizes my students to be engaged learners.

They love hands-on activities and look forward to their time in the STEM Lab each week. I would like to provide them with some materials in the classroom to further their creativity. My students will benefit from using these materials and return to the group ready to participate.
