My Project

I recently attended a teaching fellowship, a room full of adults, where the facilitator supplies pencil cases full of different fidget toys for us to engage with while they were presenting. It was incredible to see how many of us in that space chose to engage with the provided toys. This challenged me to examine my classroom setting and I believe that the current generation of students dependency on their phones does in some ways fulfill the same sensory input as a fidget toy.

It is my hope that students will fidget away their need for their cell phones in my science class.

It is my hope that these fidgets will be beneficial to all of my students with a special emphasis on my student with exceptionalities that make the general education classroom a difficult place to navigate.

My goals for this project are to conduct this experiment and see if my students are able to focus more in class without the intervention from electronic stimuli. I am a science teacher after all!
