My Students

Our health class sits in the fastest rising middle school in DC and our kids deserve all the tools they need to be successful in the classroom and in life! At Jefferson Academy, we strive to ensure that every students' needs are met. We greet our students where they are and push them to meet our highest standards.

Our kids are amazing, no ifs, buts, or even-thoughs.

Yes, our kids come from an over 95% "free and reduced lunch school," but so what? Our kids work hard, they have big dreams and big plans to reach their goals.

When working at a high needs school in a high needs area, you tend to see a lot of extremes. You see the best and worst living situations, the highs and the lows in achievement and the greatest and worst sides of people. This being said, I've never met someone, parent, teacher, social worker, principal etc, who didn't have the same love and belief in our kids as I do.

With a high population of students receiving special education services, many of our students enter our school significantly below grade level, unprepared, but yearning to learn.

My Project

The materials ordered will give the students extra sensory stimulation allowing them to focus while listening actively. Many of our students deal with high levels of anxiety and a need to feel in control and secure in our environment before any learning can happen. Weighted Pushpathz Fidgets and the inflatable seat cushions will provide the sensory input and calming effect needed to be successful in the classroom.

Kids are kids, no matter where you go, and kids want to move all the time!

Every once in a while kids are asked to sit and relax their body in order to focus their minds. This can be near impossible for many of our students. The added hand-held fidgets will allow students to never stop moving!
