My Students

My art classes are project-based and student-centered, and the classroom is our studio. Our school is small and unique and our students take on roles as leader, concerned citizens, and in my class they are artists. A big part of my teaching philosophy is to give the student the technical skills necessary to make art but to also allow them to explore and experiment with materials and ideas.

My students are helpful, kind, hardworking and intuitive.

Our main goal is to turn young girls into outstanding young women who are capable of doing anything and everything.

My Project

My students know all about drawing and painting but have rarely used their hands to craft something. I would love to introduce fiber arts into the curriculum and give them a different experience in art.

I hope to teach them silk painting, batik, and weaving.

I have developed a few units of fiber arts lessons that focus on creativity and craftsmanship. My school is a mastery-based school and we teach around 10 different outcomes. Fiber arts touches on several of these outcomes, such as Be Precise, Create, Plan, Investigate, and Discern. The lessons also include learning about and understanding different cultures through their art, and I'm hoping that my students will understand just how important art is in most cultures, that we learn about other people and civilizations through the art they make. These traditional arts have been around for centuries and I believe it's important to pass on this knowledge to the younger generations in the hope that they see the beauty and importance in such crafts. All of the materials I have requested would help me teach such wonderful art forms to my students.
