My Students

Inspire a class of inquisitive, budding female scientists in an inner-city public school! My 7th grade students will be challenged with learning about the complex subject of Human Body Systems this Spring.

My students represent a culturally diverse, disadvantaged urban population.

Many of my students at this small, all-girls public school in NYC receive free or reduced-price lunch and are children of immigrants or immigrants themselves. Most are also below grade level in both reading and math skills. In spite of this adversity, my students are intelligent, hard-working scholars with big goals for themselves and a positive outlook on life.

My Project

The best way to learn science is to be elbows-deep in it. Dissection would allow my students to visualize the biological systems we are learning in class. Fetal pigs are one of the available mammalian dissection specimens similar in anatomy to humans. A fetal pig dissection would provide a memorable, hands-on learning experience and motivate my students to cultivate a love for science.

Your donation of 20 fetal pigs would push my students to grow into women confident in their abilities in Science and excel in Science classes in high school and college.

Though my students do not necessarily have the resources and means that other students do, they deserve to have the opportunity to be challenged through this investigative dissection.
