Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 6th grade ELA and 6th and 7th grade creative writing and enrichment skills to 120 students in a title 1 school. Many of my students come from extreme poverty. Many struggle daily to find a hot meal. My middle schoolers, in many cases, are left to raise themselves and take care of their younger siblings. Despite these hardships, my students always come to school ready to learn. Some of the number one requested items in shelters are toiletries and feminine products.

My students have come to me many times in a panic because they don’t have access to feminine materials.

In my school we are able to give them to the students when they are in the school, but basically when they’re home they’re on their own to buy them.

With these products we would be able to arm girls with the materials needed to take on their day in confidence and have one less thing to worry about.

My Project

These products will be available to my students to take home so they will be able to go about their day in confidence. My middle schoolers stress about grades, future testing, taking their siblings to school on time, getting themselves to school on time, and finding a hot meal. When that time of the month rolls around, it’s an added stress onto the girls. Some avoid school because of it.

I hope that by giving students the access to these materials, we can make them feel confident and they will be more inclined to come to school.

Help me to empower my students.
