Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

"How do you take care of your brain" is the question children will talk about when holding these Plushy Brains in their community circles. Students will feel empowered in developing brain skills such as memory and recall, planning strategies, goal setting, and the power of our thoughts.

The selected books will introduce new concept, such as neuroplasticity or "bendy brain", and then the Play-Doh will reinforce the concept.

The kiddos will create adorable neurons with googly eyes and connect them as a class project "Our neuropathways"). The sensory feel of the Play-Doh will activate the emotions and encourage a positive attachment to their own learning experience.

Finally, as a social worker I hear the stories of trauma, homelessness, and the confusion kids feel when separation abruptly changes a family. Children will learn they are not alone in dealing with situational stress when they sit or "walk and talk" while holding a little spot of feelings plushies. Thank you in advance for bringing this experience to the students at our school.
