Feelings (SEL) Books!

Help me give my students social-emotional learning books for them to identify emotions and feelings! It is so important for them to start identifying this at an early age and helpful to pair with visuals!

My Students

I am a social worker at a wonderful Title I (low income) school with a dual language program. As the only social worker in the building, I support general education, special education, students in crisis, teachers, and parents. My school is extremely diverse with the students I serve either in push in (classroom lessons) or pull out services (small groups or individual). In my building with 356 students, 40% of my school is English learners, 10% are students with IEPS, a small percentage of homeless students, as well as gifted students. Building my toolbox to allow myself to have supplies for any occasion when a student asks to see me is very important as my schedule is never consistent and I need to be ready to aid any child.

My Project

The box set of a "little spot" is a great book series for students to begin to identify feelings and emotions. They are able to identify with the same character as it repeats in different forms while experiencing different feelings.

While the pandemic has made students more anxious, this allows them to become more aware of other feelings and have a conversation on what to do when we have those feelings.

The students really like the animated books as well as being able to do creative art projects as a result of the book.
