Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fifth grade girls in an inner-city elementary school in the South Bronx. Although our school has been closed since March 16, we have continued to provide for their academic and social emotional needs.

As the school social worker, it is my goal to help students develop social-emotional skills that will help them cope with the difficulties they may be experiencing.

My students and I have embarked on the distance learning journey! We participate in tele-therapy groups three times a week. In our sessions, they learn coping skills they can utilize in times of crisis. They are eager to learn and engage in different activities.

My Project

Please help me give my students materials they can use that will help them through the therapeutic process. My students have participated actively in remote counseling groups during school closures but would benefit from materials they can use at home.

My students are eager to participate in group activities but lack resources they can use.

The materials I have chosen will be provided to students for use during remote learning and when we return to school. They will be able to complete activities from the workbooks. The journals, pens, markers, and crayons will be used to help them write or draw about how they are feeling. These items will allow our group sessions to be fun and therapeutic.
