This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember playing instruments in music class? My students love to play. I try to put instruments in their hands as much as possible. Unfortunately, we have large classes and not enough instruments to go around.

My students come from a low socioeconomic area.

Many times my music classes are the first place they get to see and experience playing instruments. They love to jump in and play the instruments. Every time they walk in and the instruments are out they get so excited.

My Project

I have classes this year that have over 30 students in them. This is not likely to change in the future. Right now I have only six mallet instruments (xylophone like instruments). This means that when we are playing songs on the mallet instruments we have to take turns and share. I like for every child to get to play every instrument. In a class of 30 this takes a long time. If I have more instruments to put in their hands they can learn so much more from the music lessons. The bass bars that I am asking for play a really low note, at the bottom of the chord. The kids will love to play them. It will really add to our music making. They can all get the opportunity to play more and wait less.

These kids really want to play instruments all of the time.

The best way to learn music is to play it. Please help us to add to our instrument collection so we can have more hands on time and less time waiting in line!
