My Students

At my school it was business as usual before COVID-19. The day before our district and the state of Pennsylvania shut down, it was parent-teacher conferences. Our English Language Development team of teachers did not get to say goodbye to our 65 English Learners and the students did not get a chance to grab their things from their desk. Students are now safe at home with their families doing their best they can to learn.

My Project

I hope that the books will serve two purposes in our students' lives. First, our students have been learning from home since mid March. Some of the students may not have access to a full library of books. Hopefully the books will help the students keep reading and engaging with text at home.

Being away from school and coming back after an extended time off can be scary for students, especially English Learners.

The second purpose of this project is that I hope my students will be able to learn a lesson from their books. The Name Jar talks about the importance of the students' names and it shows how your name makes you unique. Save Me a Seat offers students a different perspective on friendship. This will set them up to have a successful school year.
