My Students

Two of our older balances have begun to show their age and are not giving precise masses this year. The students put the same object on twice and are getting 2 different masses!

My school is a small city, public high school in New York state.

We have a majority of students who qualify for free/reduced lunch in a high-needs district. My students are eager to learn, but need the tools to allow them to do so effectively and efficiently.

My Project

The two balances will serve all of our students who take chemistry. Having these replacement balances will decrease their wait time. When students can obtain their masses quickly, it permits them to do additional trials to verify their data. This is especially important with our new schedule this year which decreased the length of our periods!

Being able to obtain precise and accurate data for the students' chemistry experiments is essential.

In the last lab, their masses were supposed to be the same and then decrease in another part. Imagine the students' frustration (and mine!) when we saw masses increase and then decrease - or vice versa. There was little consistency so the two balances affected must be retired. Please help us attain that balance back!
