My Students

My school has a unique feel and in a unique situation. All of the students are classified special education, but not in the classical sense. Yes they suffer developmental delays associated with most special education students, many of our students are high functioning autistic or suffer from debilitating emotional disabilities.

Students use our school as a stepping stone, a transition school from a special education high school, or a psychiatric hospital, to a traditional high school setting.

Many of these students get bussed in from all over New York City and are given an opportunity to be transitioned into a setting like most of their peers

My Project

During our Physical Education class the students have opportunities to use workout equipment or exercise, play small games or engage in yoga and mindfulness. We would like to introduce a dance unit but we are unable to without a way to play music

However, these activities can get a little dull sometimes with out a little music to inspire them.

The students would also like to use the yoga/mindfullness sessions as a way to unwind from the stress around them but can be difficult to drown out the noise of the small games
