Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Looking back on my first year of teaching, I realize that some things were missing. My children never received any formal musical instruction. I couldn't even introduce them to the wonderful world of musical instruments because I lacked all of the necessary supplies. Teaching my very diverse group of 1st graders, I think it would be so important to instill an appreciation and love of music at this young age.

When it comes to purchasing supplies, a teacher's first priority usually falls into the categories of reading and writing. I believe that music goes hand in hand with learning. All my students learn in very different ways. It is the job of the teacher to find a way to teach every different learner. Music can be a beautiful introduction of self expression as well as learning.

I have requested a variety of musical instruments. One set contains instruments from around the world. This set is truly important because many of my students come from different parts of our world. I feel that this can not only be a wonderful way to teach music throughout the world, but also to allow my multicultural students to teach the class about where they come from. The second set is composed of all different types of instruments. This will allow for the teaching of the basic understanding of the way in which music is created.

By funding this project you will be giving each and every one of my students the gift of music. There is so much that my students can learn from these instruments, including self expression and the music from each others cultures.
