This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I coach and teach in a low-income/high poverty school district. My players are faced with challenges both on and off the field. Despite the many difficulties and challenges they face, we turn to athletics to provide hope. Correlating the athletics and meaningful life learning experiences provide my students with an opportunity to achieve some of their dreams. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free and lunch. There are a multitude of teams and clubs that fit the needs of everyone.

My Project

Having the Cool Zone will allow for longer play without exhaustion and limit the possibility of a heat stroke. We will be playing about 8 games which will start at 4 pm in the afternoon. Another way we will be using the equipment by placing it at the door way of our weight room when the air has gone out so that we may continue to work out during the summer months. Recently, we investigated how hydration and a cool area reduces the amount of heat exhaustion. This equipment makes a difference in the lives of our student in more ways than one. To be able to expose them to new technology and show the importance of cooling the body improves longevity during those hot days.
