My Students

All of my students have autism. They learn very differently from other children. They are highly visual and kinesthetic learners. They love to move, sing, and explore the classroom. Learning for them has to be fun and engaging. Using textured materials, realia, and manipulatives help them enjoy learning reading, writing, as well as math.

My students love to learn.

They try their very best to be in school every day. They try their hardest during learning time. Their parents are our partners in education, without their help, the children will not be as successful as they are now.

My students are integrated every day with their non-disabled peers and they are well-respected and loved by our school, by other children, and our community.

My Project

The toys will greatly help my students. Sometimes they have a hard time focusing on tasks presented to them. They need sensory materials to help them calm down during difficult times to be able to take on more complicated tasks. The use of sensory materials also create hands-on, self-directed, and self-centred play, and it encourages discovery and development in the students that I teach. When they start using materials to squeeze, touch, push and pull it redirects students to get absorbed on the fun activities. Playing also helps develop their language by taking turns and sharing with one another. The materials will also help their fine motor skills to learn to cut, draw and develop future handwriting skills.
