My Students

"Do we get to do that?!" is often a phrase heard in our classroom. The students in my classroom, everyday, are eager to learn and try new things. Outside of school they do not typically have many opportunities, as I work at a Title I school in which many students are a part of the free and reduced lunch program. My school district is in a small community, in east Texas, and our students do not always have easy access to experiences and opportunities like schools in a bigger city would.

My Project

My students need a texture box with mystery items to reinforce the skills we are learning in science about properties of matter. This game is a way to practice problem solving and critical thinking while playing a fun science game about feeling for a mystery item's texture!

My students also need blending tubs to reinforce their reading skills throughout the year.

These blending tubs help students with their speech, pronunciation, and spelling skills by encouraging them to figure out the initial sounds in words and blends in a nonthreatening way. When they hold the item they are able to identify its name then produce the sounds and finally identify the blend.

The treasure box items will be used to reinforce reading as well. Each night students must read a certain book they are assigned and as they do that they collect points to then earn a prize out of the prize box. For some students the prize is the only motivation they have to work on their reading skills.

The playing cards are for math run games. We use playing cards in adding and subtracting games, comparing number games, when working on number lines, and so much more.
