My Students

I teach in a Title I Middle School. My students all have some learning disability or other impairment that interferes with their success in school.

My students are adolescents with all the developmental issues that accompany the early teen years with the added stress and self-consciousness of learning difficulties.

These students do not typically have lots of resources at home. Many of my students also have difficulty coping with challenges and the demands of school and social relationships. They often have difficulty regulating their behavior which can be seen in their academic performance as well as disciplinary actions.

My Project

Unfortunately many of my students are not able to be intrinsically motivated to be successful in school. Having external motivation gives them a reason to succeed. The special food and drinks will be used to reward their hard work and good behavior.

These supplies will reinforce character traits such as responsibility and respect that will provide lifelong benefits to my students.

In addition to providing reinforcement, these students will be given things that they may not normally have access to. Meeting a physical or emotional need can help a student feel accepted and validated.

Furthermore, they are growing adolesents and need lots of calories. Many of these students play sports as well, and the Gatorade will replenish their electrolytes and other nutrients they need to meet the demands that sports and puberty are requiring.
