This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th grade students are diverse students of varied backgrounds that full of life and curiosity, and eager to learn! They love good stories with plot twists, and lots of emotions. They like to discuss the events in books in order to relate to them, and make connections.

They often struggle to engage in their readings due to the lack of engaging books in our classroom library.

They often complain about the books we have being outdated, and ask for teachers to provide newer text. At times they struggle to master skills taught in our non fiction unit due to the limited texts of this genre available in our classroom library. My ENL students have a harder time finding books in our library as there are not enough books in their native language in order for them to thrive.

My Project

The requested books will feed my student's love of reading. They already love to read, but currently have a difficult time finding books they love in our library. Our books are very old and refurbished, and do not meet the majority of our class's interests.

These books will feed my students’ passion for reading and will ensure that they continue to value a good book.

I am afraid students will lose interest in reading, if our library is not updated, and will lose key instructional skills. They need resources with which to practice what we are learning, and are currently very limited.
