Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a group of "at promise" students who were pre-identified because they struggle in multiple areas, including academics, attendance, and behavior. This program and class are designed to provide students with academic and social-emotional support to be successful in high school and provide them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills.

My students tend to exhibit extrinsic motivation and tend to work harder if there are incentives and knowing that they will be rewarded with something tangible which is why I always look for opportunities to reward and celebrate their accomplishments.

In addition to celebrating my own students, I help with school-wide incentives and celebrations. I find that one of the most popular rewards and incentives are snacks and certain food items. I create interventions for specific students, create individual goals, and monitor their progress. I'd like to have access to snacks and food items that THEY like to reward them with, as they meet certain criteria. The gift cards will be used to replenish the snacks as needed and provide hot meals, such as pizza, as bigger rewards. This project not only feeds them, literally and physically, but emotionally it helps build their confidence and self-esteem. Thank you for your consideration.
