My students need weighted pillows and blankets to include in their "sensory diet" to help them regulate their bodies throughout the school day.

My Students
Each child has a unique set of sensory needs. Weighted pillows and blankets can be used to provide calming input when a student becomes "overloaded" or "wired". Sensory input can help a child stay focused and organized throughout the day.
My class is a kindergarten inclusion classroom.
It is part of a program that is designed to teach high functioning autistic children. We have four children with ASDs and eight typically developing children. In addition to the standard academic curriculum, specialized curricula and strategies that foster relationship development, adaptive skills, sensory/motor development, self-regulation and language and communication development are infused throughout the day.
My Project
Many children with an autism spectrum disorder also have problems with sensory integration. By engaging my students in sensory activities on a frequent, regular basis I hope to give them the ability to remain engaged, focused, and in control more often. When students become over stimulated, disorganized, or overwhelmed these weighted pillows and blankets help them regulate themselves.
It can be very difficult to watch a child struggle and be uncomfortable in their little world.
Teaching ASD students, you learn what triggers their meltdowns and what works and what does not work for each of them as individuals. These weighted pillows and blankets will help meet the needs of these students so they can function and flourish in the classroom.
