My Students

Many of my students are responsible for preparing meals for themselves & younger siblings at night & on the weekends. Having a class iPad would provide a fun and educational way to make cooking interesting and fulfilling for my students through the use of cooking apps and online cookbooks/recipes.

I have a FABULOUS class of 25 fourth graders in Georgia.

We are a group 50% boys, 50% girls. We are a mixture of all different races and nationalities. A large percentage of my students qualify for free/reduced lunch. They are an eclectic mix of students, but they blend well together. I haven't taught a class this large in many years, but with budget cuts come larger class sizes. It becomes more difficult to meet everyone's needs when you have a larger class... Donors Choose helps to provide extra classroom supplies and extras for my students to use.

My Project

I am always searching for new ways to put information in the hands of my students. This project through FEED USA requesting an iPad will help us connect to the Internet (online cookbooks/recipes/nutritional information). I can also download cooking apps such as: Kraft Big Fork, Little Fork, Cooking with Kids, Cooking for Beginners, Kung Fu Panda cookbook, and Kitchen Monsters specifically designed for children. Students can use the picture function on the iPad to document their cooking creations in class as well.

My students need information on how to prepare healthy meals for themselves and their siblings at night and on the weekends. With this FEED USA project, they will have access to new recipes, cooking apps, and nutritional information every day! We can print recipes and make class cookbooks with the apps and recipes we find online. The combination of food and technology will make for a great combination in our classroom.
