Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a reading teacher in a lower income school. I work with K-5 students who have struggles in areas of phonics, spelling, and reading. Donations are very helpful. K-2 students generally get a snack in their regular classroom. Grades 3-5 usually do not get this. One thing I try to offer my 3-5 students is a snack everyday. I feel like having a food “pick-me-up” often helps with concentration and motivation. I do notice that there is an obvious change in overall performance when they just have a little snack. Currently, I am spending $100-200 each month stocking up on snacks. I also have a “student store” that costs money each month. While both of these things are helping students, I really cannot continue to spend the money on both. Since the store is for all students (K-5), the obvious place to make cuts is with the snacks because they are only for 3-5. Also, I do not have a water fountain in my room or nearby. Therefore, I would like to have water bottles for my students that do not have one. I know these things will have a positive impact on my students. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
