My Project

I am the lucky teacher of at least 20 English Language Learners. They are bright and eager young ladies and gentlemen, many are learning how to speak, read, and write English. Our school is in an ethnically diverse, low-income neighborhood. The kids come to school still ready to learn, despite the challenges they face in their personal lives. In my classroom alone, students speak five different languages; French, Portuguese, Spanish, Somali, and English.

Many of our students go hungry throughout the day and are embarrassed to say so.

Many go hungry because there is not enough food at home to go around. As active and growing first and second graders, they get hungry throughout the day and come into my classroom asking for a snack to stay awake and focused. I want to make sure that I have something for them to eat every day!

Their hunger is real and impacts their growth, focus, and development negatively. No child should feel hunger. Food is a basic human need. Small snacks help them push through their day, but we can’t do it alone. Please help us provide small snacks to our students.
