This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

During this life-altering pandemic, my personal goal for each student is to be a confident learner, overcoming obstacles with opportunities and seeing the "silver lining" in situations. Distance learning has been a challenge, but I want my students to live out our class mantra: "The expert at anything was once a beginner."

My fourth grade students are a creative, curious, fun-loving group!

We are a community of learners who are driven by inspiration and want to share that same gift with others.

My Project

Depending on when this project gets funded, the Taco Tuesday Family Literacy Night, will either be virtual or in-person. Families will be invited to make a taco dinner together and then come in their pajamas to participate in an interactive read aloud of Dragons Love Tacos. Instead of the teacher doing the read aloud, however, the families that attend will be given a designated page in the book to read aloud as we do a collective school "family" read aloud of Dragons Love Tacos. Food, fellowship, and the joy of reading is the perfect way to devour a good book with our school families.

Providing families with a family literacy activity that includes food and fellowship is a great healthy outlet that not only strengthens the ties of the family but also extends it to the school community.

Feasting on a delicious book will most definitely make a positive impact on the overall mental health of families.
