This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing human beings! They are full of life and have endless potential to do so many wonderful things. My school is a Title I school in a poverty-stricken​ community.

Our school consists of a very large English language learner population.

All of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Many of our parents struggle to help meet the needs of school supplies and the needs of their children. Regardless of these circumstances, my students overcome! They are learning how to face challenges and grow stronger academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for the next level of life.

I believe that these students deserve every opportunity this world has to offer and I am determined to help them get it.

These students can change the world with their brilliant minds and can climb out of the cycle of poverty through the gift of education. They will learn that the world is theirs for the taking with hard work, dedication, and knowledge.

My Project

It all started with one read aloud: It's Not Jack and in the Beanstalk. My students were familiar with the story, but not THIS story. By the time I finished, the students were mesmerized: the satire, the voice, the illustrations, and the story. They were hooked, not because of creatively I read the book, but because of how amazingly Josh Funk wrote the book.

My students new favorite author is Josh Funk and they want to read all his books!

Josh Funk and I go way back. He's been my reading for my classes for years now and doesn't charge a penny. He's such an amazing, selfless author that I reach out him every year last minute and request he reads to my class.

That's why this year, I'm determined to let my students read all his books before he virtually reads to us. Imagine the bigger conversations they'll have. Imagine the enthusiasm of meeting their (and my) author. They've been wanting to read his books, and I do have some, but I cannot afford the rest. With your help, we can make their favorite author dreams a reality!
