Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What excites me is that my students took the time to think about my class and the work I do with them. I was impressed with the fact that they realized that some of my lessons could be enhanced by simply incorporating technology.

One day during class, my students noticed that I was struggling to use a laptop in class.

My students started to make comments about the laptop; they stated that "It was outdated and I need to step it up in the new age." During the duration of the class discussion, one of my students started talking about doing a PowerPoint presentation in class to make the class more interesting and fun. I asked the student to continue to explain the idea. My student stated that "When she was in middle school her technology teacher made them do PowerPoint presentations." Other students started asking her more questions and then the entire class got involved in the discussion. I was feeling embarrassed and hurt all at the same time. I felt that I was not providing the best learning opportunity for my students. Being aware of the many challenges that my students deal with on a daily basis, I should be more motivated to provide the best opportunity to enhance their academic environment.

I think that this project will help my students visually and develop their presentation skills, especially speaking to a larger audience. Learning how to speak in public helps all students get more comfortable speaking before a group and within various settings. If students are able to practice this in school, this will make them better college students. Writing is another skill that will benefit a student for the rest of their life, both personally and professionally.
