Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our Title I high school fashion design classroom, technology and art supplies are crucial tools that help bring student creativity to life. Every day, students are working hard to build industry-level skills such as designing, sewing, pattern making, and textile embellishment. To do this, we depend on specialized materials and technology support, but unfortunately, our resources are limited.

Much like how whiteboards are essential for guided practice in math classes, LED light boxes, USB-C mice for Mac laptops, E6000 glue for beading, hot glue guns and sticks, and watercolor paints are daily necessities in our fashion design classes.

Light boxes allow students to trace and refine fashion sketches with precision. USB-C mice help students easily navigate design software on our MacBooks, which can otherwise be difficult using a trackpad alone. E6000 glue and hot glue guns are vital for hands-on projects like embellishing garments with beads, rhinestones, and trims. Watercolor paints inspire students to creatively illustrate their fashion concepts with beautiful renderings.

However, just like markers that run dry and erasers that disappear, our supplies often run out, break, or are shared among too many students, slowing down creativity and learning. When students have to stop mid-project to find working materials, it distracts them and they miss valuable instruction and feedback.

By donating to our project, you will improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also help elevate their academic and creative achievements. Students will be able to concentrate on creating innovative fashion designs instead of worrying whether their tools will work. In today's technology-driven world, any experience with up-to-date technology and quality art materials increases student literacy but also builds their confidence, excitement, and career readiness. Your support will directly empower our students to succeed in school—and in the fashion industry!
