Farm to Table Fun

Help me give my students a healthy farm to table experience with the help of an instapot, jars, and a blender. With these few items we can turn the fruit from our garden into jam.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Middle School--- do you remember the days you spent in Middle School??? Hormones raging, trying to figure out who you were- knowing that you knew more than your parents and definitely more than any teacher who stood in front of you!!! Now fast forward to the Middle Schoolers of today- it's the same but add the added pressure of social media, any information at your finger tips with your phone, both parents working- if they are lucky enough to have both parents in the home. Now add to all of this a unique way of learning- maybe they need something repeated 10 times, maybe they need things shown to them, or maybe they just can't sit still to save their life- could be visual or auditory processing, maybe add a bit of autism or bi-polar or a combo of them all.

Each student is unique- they desire to be outside and part of a group.

When put into a situation outside of the all to often school scene of sit in a desk and pencil and paper work- these student blossom- they are able to shine and show you who they really are.

My Project

We are very lucky to have a 3-year-old orchard that my students have been tending to. We also have 3 older pineapple guava trees that have given us plenty of fruit.

After some research, the students decided they wanted to make jam for their friends and family.

Round one has been a great success but there is always room for improvement. By having an instapot and a blender at our disposal -we can open a mini factory when the trees award our hard work. We hope to expand our culinary delights to go beyond just jams and move into lunches, dinners, the sky is the limit.... if we plant it, it will grow!
