My Project

My school is a Title One, public school located in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Many of my students come from low-income families and do not have regular access to healthy food options that are both affordable or readily available. The goal of this project is to share diverse cultures and learning to utilize the resources around us.

Students will have the opportunity to utilize hands-on learning in our garden and classroom kitchen.

Students will learn and use measuring and math concepts. Students will use and compare fresh herbs versus dry herbs.

Students will practice safe food handling by protecting their hands with gloves, aprons and chef hats while preparing foods. Members of the Farm to Table Club will learn about food safety, nutrition, diverse cultures, and the importance of a balanced diet.

Additionally, students will harvest herbs and vegetables so that they can learn how to prepare delicious recipes in the classroom that they can share with their families at home. The purpose of the club is to help students to become more mindful, healthy eaters and to learn substantial life skills.
