Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students come from a low-socioeconomic background. Some come from broken homes, are in foster care, while others live in shelters. They come from areas where crime is great and death is common.

As a result, students lack the skills and resources they need in order to be successful.

My students are wonderful children who need some individual attention and guidance. As an educator, I treat each of my students as individuals and look for ways in which I can connect with them. Though I am educating them academically, I also educate them socially and help make them more aware of the choices before them and the decisions they ultimately make. I want them to feel that they can achieve anything with hard work, respect for themselves and others.

My Project

The next genre my 6th grade classes will study soon is Fantasy. Most of the books in the classroom library are for students who read at or above grade level. The books requested would be for the students who are reading below grade level. The books selected will interest my reluctant readers with their stories and pictures. Students will have new and engaging books that they will be able to read successfully.

Bringing new fantasy books into the class and classroom library will engage the reluctant reader into a world of fantasy where anything is possible.

This, in turn, will help them to analyze the stories and enable them to write their own.
