Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How often do you look at a piece of writing that is nonfiction? I normally do not. That is the same for my students. With the testing of nonfiction materials, my students are in great need for materials to read in my classroom.
The students in my room come from poor families, but most of all, my students are primarily English as a second language learners.
This is the demographic of our whole school. This group of kids is the sweetest, most eager group of learners. They love to read and attend school. Many of them were born in Mexico and have only recently moved to South Carolina.
My Project
With such bright and wonderful topics in the nonfiction books that I am asking for, these students will be able to travel and learn about topics they never would think about. These books will be used in daily lessons but also for projects and free reading time. I will be able to teach my students what components to examine for information and how to use the text to answer questions.
This project is of great importance to these students for it allows them to travel and learn about topics they may not think about, but more importantly it will give them a better understanding of how to read nonfiction on state tests.
