Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am currently a special education teacher in a high needs middle school. My students are eager to learn but lack proper classroom resources. Our classroom is located in an inlet within our school building. Even with the windows wide open we do not receive so much as a breeze.

My students are very motivated and try their best despite the academic disabilities.

In addition to overcoming their learning delays, my students come from low income homes. All of the students in my school are eligible for free or reduced lunch due to the household incomes.

My Project

As part of the new core standards, students are required to understand the many ideas and concepts from many areas around the world. My classroom needs fans to keep the students cool and focused on their work. On warm days it is difficult for them to be motivated on their work and assignments due to the heat. Many say, "I went to school without air conditioners/fans," but we must remember that due to global warming, this heat isn't the same kind that we all experienced in our school days.

Supplying my Special Education Math classes with cooling fans would give us more time to experience more hands-on opportunities and focus on our assigned tasks.

Your help is desperately needed to help our room function properly. Students and myself all depend on proper conditions for our class to run well.
