Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager, active, curious, and imaginative hands-on learners. My students are engaged daily in a rigorous, integrated academic curriculum, which includes a high emphasis on STEM learning. Students live in high poverty, metropolitan city and attend a Title I school. Our inner-city school lacks funding to access supplemental learning materials.

My students show up to class daily and work diligently to overcome the many challenges they face living in the inner city.

My students enjoy working cooperatively and display great creativity. Parents continually seek the best possible educational opportunities for their children. Additionally, I believe children benefit from experiences that include discovery, exploration, awakening curiosity, and an appreciation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

My Project

My school will be hosting a STEM Family Night that will be sure to generate excitement for STEM in our school and community by allowing students, teachers, and families to explore STEM together in a fun way!

At our STEM Family Night we will have hands-on science, math, and engineering activities for students and families to complete together.

The event will include a range of activities covering different STEM topics and connections to exciting STEM careers.

The Lakeshore STEAM and Maker Space Packs will provide parents and students everything needed to complete a hands-on activity that introduces an exciting engineering occupation with topics ranging from mechanical, transportation, architectural, and civil engineering. Each pack comes with a STEM career brochure, a challenge card and simple instructions in English and Spanish that will facilitate Family STEM Night for our school community.

Students through STEM activities will develops skills in problem solving, perseverance, cause and effect, engineering practices, and the design process. Also, and most importantly, students will thrive as they see their parents involved in their learning process.
