This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach second grade in a neighborhood that often struggles to meet basic needs. They are kind hearted kids who are hungry for knowledge.

In our classroom we leave our worries at the door and become a family that loves to grow and work together.

We are big kids now but still like to play. We enjoy creating and building things. We love to share our creations and dream of what we will do when we grow up. Now our little hands play with building blocks and later our big hands will design and create the communities of the future.

My Project

Who doesn't love family game night? Family game night is a time where family, and sometimes friends, come together to play, laugh, and learn about each other. Most of my students will not have this experience for many reasons. I want my kids to learn how to take turns, plan and strategize in a relaxed environment.

Second graders should have the chance to play hard while they work hard learning to read, speak, and most importantly, respect each other.

A simple game of Connect Four will allow kids to not only take turns but plan their moves. Having more than one game in the classroom lets them experience a tournament like environment. A tournament can teach and inspire young minds to want to learn and improve skills.
