My Students

What makes reading fun? Well, good books of course. Being good at comprehension also makes reading fun, too. What better way to help students love reading than with books and fun comprehension activities.

The students in my 4th grade enjoy reading and are constantly checking out books from my classroom library.

My students love it when I add new books to our classroom library.

I am constantly shopping yard sales to find books to add to our library. Our school is located in a suburb near a large metropolitan city. Half of our student population receives free or reduced-price lunches.

My Project

The materials selected for this project will help engage students and their families in many ways. My students love to check out chapter books from my classroom library.

They also love to participate in our weekly "Book Talks" where we share specific things about books with our classmates.

I think my students would benefit greatly from doing Book Talks with their families as well with the new chapter books from this project.

Another way this project will encourage family engagement is with the Reading and Writing Skills Folder games. I plan to let students sign these games out, like they do my books, so that they can take them home and play them with their families.

They can show their families what they are learning about at school. The students will also be able to take home the Fluency and Comprehension Partner Scripts to read with their families. These scripts are the perfect length for students to read with their families as they will not be very time consuming.

Seeing what their students can do will benefit families and make them part of the learning process. By donating to this project, you will be bring students and their families together having fun with literacy.
