My Students

The students in my pre-K class are three, four and five year olds that have been screened and found "at risk" for development in either cognitive, language or motor areas. Many of of my students are lacking rich language and literacy experiences, and many of them have deficits in social, emotional, and physical learning experiences. However, they are always eager to learn!

Our mission at the Early Learning Center is to help children and their families acquire the skills that are necessary to be successful in school.

My students learn best through active and purposeful play both outside and inside of our classroom to meet national and state learning standards.

My Project

"In early childhood, family engagement is generally seen as a central element of high quality programs, and important in supporting child development and learning," states The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). My students will be able to plan, build, test and then improve their designs with their family during "Family Fun Fridays" at school with the many building materials provided!

My goal is to provide my students and families with open-ended materials in a safe and inviting learning environment and become partners in learning.

By guiding parents and students in the learning process with the Gears! Gears! Gears! mix and match pieces, they will be able to design vehicles, spinning tea cup, and ferris wheels together. The Bridge Building, Mag Builder and K'Nex sets will encourage abstract thinking and engineering as the student-family teams will not only build structures, but they will also build a stronger school relationship. These meaningful school learning experiences will provide the foundation for families to stay involved in their child's academic success!
